Leitch Joins Panasonic P2 Consortium
Leitch and Panasonic partner to provide compatibility between Leitch NEXIO™ server system and Panasonic P2 series
Leitch Technology Corporation (TSX:LTV) today announced that its NEXIO™ TXS and ITS servers and NewsFlash™ editing systems will support the Panasonic DVCPRO Professional Plug-in (“P2”) solid state memory-based technology. The partnership of Panasonic and Leitch will allow the companies’ mutual customers to streamline their workflow by expediting the movement of media acquired in the field into the NEXIO server shared storage environment.
“Panasonic has chosen to use the industry-standard MXF file format for the P2 technology, which fits perfectly into Leitch’s open platform strategy, and therefore it is a simple matter to interface Panasonic’s technology into Leitch’s NEXIO shared storage system” said Tim Slate, director of product marketing for the Leitch server division.
“We are very pleased that Leitch will secure the interface with our DVCPRO P2 series. This will enhance the choice of IT News Gathering (“ING”) system to the customer globally, said Mr. Shimozuru, head of Professional AV System B.U. of Panasonic AVC Networks Company.
The Panasonic DVCPRO P2 series is a next-generation “ING” system that uses the P2 card as recording media. Leitch’s NEXIO is a modular, scalable and highly cost-effective server system for transmission and news environments, which offers integrated applications platforms for editing, browsing and media management. Leitch’s NewsFlash is a fully integrated non-linear editing system that dramatically reduces editing time by providing direct access to all content stored on the NEXIO server system as soon as ingest begins.
