Information on renewed regulation for lithium battery by air shipment

Air shipment procedure for lithium-ion battery and lithium metal battery (Lithium Battery as a whole) is required to be changed based on the renewed regulation by ICAO(International Civil Aviation Organization) and IATA(International Air Transport Association) which was issued from Jan.1 2013. The lithium battery which is a part of Panasonic Broadcast and Professional AV products can be transported as non-dangerous goods when it satisfies some conditions specified by this renewed regulation. The applicable items of Panasonic Professional AV products are the products which packs lithium battery and the lithium battery itself. Please refer to the following explanation in detail.

2. Conditions to make lithium battery shipment as non-dangerous goods

• A. The following certificates are attached
  • — Independent Certification of Lithium Battery(UN Model Regulation) / Certification of 1.2m drop test
  • — PSDN or MSDS (Certification of Safety Test
  • — Certification of non-mercury (Required only for shipment to China)
• B. Declaration of non-dangerous goods (which includes contact number for 24 hours etc.)
  • *The attached is a sample document of "Letter of Certification".
• C. A Label which describes that the contents is lithium battery and also describes the procedure when the package is damaged is attached on the package.

• D. In the case of transporting lithium batteries only, one carton must contain no more than two batteries. (If transporting products packed with batteries, the net weight of the batteries must be 5 kg or less, consisting of the minimum number of batteries required to operate the equipment plus up to two batteries.)

3. This regulation is only for Air shipment. (Land or Boat shipment is out of regulation currently.)

4. In case of shipping the products including lithium battery or lithium battery itself by air, it is required that the product package is exactly the same as original package style in order to make it as non-dangerous goods shipment. Otherwise, 1.2m drop test is required.
