PANASONIC EXPANDS DVCPRO50 RANGE WITH NEW VTRS AND CAMCORDER
Panasonic introduced new entry level DVCPRO50 equipment at IBC. This included the AJ-SD955B and AJ-SD930B studio VTRs and a new 2/3" IT-3CCD camcorder, the AJ-SDC905. The new range of equipment is part of PanasonicÅfs strategy of making DVCPRO50 the main SD production standard.

A major feature of the new range of DVCPRO50 VTRs is the availability of its AJ-YAD955G IEEE 1394 50Mbps interface board as an option. This allows them to support full 4:2:2 quality video transfers at 50Mbps DV compression data rates over IEEE 1394. This is the world's first implementation of IEEE 1394 capabilities at 50Mbps. In addition to the quality and speed improvement of transferring digital video and audio via IEEE 1394, the board eliminates the need to add a specialised PCI capture card in a computer based non-linear editing system, with the associated need to decompress the video prior to transfer.

Both VTRs have DVCPRO and DVCPRO50 recording capability and playback of all DVCPRO formats including DV and DVCAM™.

As part of the expansion of the range, Panasonic introduced a new camcorder, the AJ-SDC905. Switchable 16:9/4:3, the camera incorporates new generation 600,000 pixel IT CCDs with newly developed matrix colour correction.
