Panasonic Announces expressP2 CARD for 4K and High Frame Rate Recording; New expressP2 Drive Promotes Fast Transfer Of High-Speed Footage

New 4K VariCam 35 and 2/3" VariCam HS Camera/Recorders Will Use expressP2 Card

NEWARK, NJ (February 27, 2014) – Panasonic has announced a new generation of P2 solid-state recording media, the expressP2 card, specifically designed to accommodate high frame rate 1080 HDAVC-ULTRA recording (above 60fps) as well as 4K capture. The company’s new 4K VariCam 35* and 2/3" VariCam HS* (High Speed) camera/recorders, both with higher requirements for data handling than prior P2 camcorders, incorporate two expressP2 slots.

The 256GByte expressP2 Card (AU-XP0256A) facilitates the 4K VariCam 35’s recording of 4K video at frame rates up to 120p, as well as the 2/3" VariCam HS’s 1080 HD recording at frame rates to 240fps. In addition, the new expressP2 card ensures high-speed transfer, high reliability and the writing assurance of all P2 frame rates, formats and codecs. The expressP2 card is the same length and width as a standard P2 card, with 1.5x the thickness.

The expressP2 card offers fast transfer speeds (up to 2.4Gbps.), and contains a flash memory error correction system, equivalent to a RAID system, to recover from a failure in a sector, page, or entire block. The expressP2 card also features a secure Content Protection System, a self-monitoring system for usage count.

The expressP2 card shares the robust legacy of Panasonic’s P2 media, which all use high-quality solid-state memory and extremely durable construction. Additionally, P2 cards facilitate dependable performance during recording in all types of environments, as well as instant access and complete data compatibility in all P2 camera/recorders and workflow.

The simultaneous introduction of the expressP2 card drive (AU-XPD1) will facilitate the fast offload of material from the expressP2 card at speeds up to 2.4Gbps. The expressP2 card drive incorporates one card slot compatible with both expressP2 and standard P2 cards. A USB 3.0 (Type B) interface promotes compatibility with all windows 8.1, 8 and 7, and MAC OSX 10.7, 10.8 and 10.9-enabled devices. The expressP2 drive also offers a secure Content Protection System.

The expressP2 card and expressP2 card drive will both be available in fall 2014, with pricing to be announced.
