Panasonic Develops an 8K ROI Camera Capable of Providing Up to
Four Different HD Videos from an 8K Image
Single 8K ROI camera serves as four HD cameras to improve operational efficiency and reduce operating costs in live events and sports applications.

Osaka, Japan – Panasonic Corporation developed an 8K ROI (Region of Interest) multi-camera system that uses high-resolution 8K cameras to improve operating efficiency and reduce operating costs in live events and sports applications. The product is scheduled for market release in in July 2019.*1
The AK-SHB800GJ 8K Multi-Purpose Camera is a compact, box-type camera and features an 8K full-size CMOS image sensor and EF lens mount. An 8K ROI multi-camera system can be configured by connecting the AK-SHB800GJ to an AK-SHU800 Image Processing Unit and a PC installed with Framing Control Software.*2
Up to four different HD videos can be cropped from a high-resolution, wide-angle 8K image, and each cropped image can be panned, tilted and zoomed individually, enabling the single 8K ROI camera to serve as four HD cameras. A multiple of 8K Multi-Purpose Camera units (maximum of 8 units) can be connected and operated as one integrated system. By linking a crop area in one camera to multiple crop images in other cameras, pan, tilt and zoom on the multiple crop images operate in link with the panning, tilting and zooming on the main frame. The automatic wide-angle distortion correction function achieves natural-looking images even in the videos cropped from the frame periphery.
The 8K ROI multi-camera system improves operating efficiency and reduces operating costs in live events and sports recording or broadcasting. The system helps to reduce camera setup, relocation and transport costs. It also eliminates the need to take up audience seats for the setup of multiple cameras.

The newly developed 8K ROI multi-camera system will be showcased in the NAB Show held in Las Vegas, U.S.A. from April 8 to 11, 2019.

1. Up to four HD videos can be cropped from a single high-resolution 8K camera image.
The 8K Multi-Purpose Camera is set up in a fixed position. An 8K ROI camera can be set with a maximum of four crop areas to obtain four HD images from a high-resolution, wide-angle 8K image. The four crop areas, 1 to 4, can be individually controlled for panning, tilting and zoom. Moreover, for example, crop 1 (long shot) and crop 2 (close-up) can be linked in operation.

A multiple of 8K Multi-Purpose Camera units (maximum of 8 units) can be connected and operated as one integrated system. When three 8K Multi-Purpose Camera units are set up and two crop areas, close-up and long shot, are linked, the panning, tilting and zoom on all six crops operate in link with the operations performed on the main frame image.

3. The automatic wide-angle distortion correction function removes, in real time, distortion of images cropped from the image periphery.
This function automatically corrects, in real time, wide-angle distortion of images cropped from the image periphery away from the center image. This results in natural-looking videos as if the camera images were individually panned or tilted.
