April 8th, 2019
Osaka, Japan – Panasonic Corporation announced the launch of the new P2 Cast on AWS workflow for P2 series, the new P2 4K camera recorder, and P2 MXF recording compatibility for the handheld AG-CX350 camera recorder, all within 2019.
“P2 Cast on AWS” is a service that deploys P2 Cast, a P2 workflow solution, on the AWS (Amazon Web Services) cloud. Trial operation together with EDIUS Cloud (Grass Valley) on AWS has already commenced, and preparations are being made to roll out the service within 2019.
The current P2 Cast is operated by accessing the P2 Cast cloud server and then download the content to the station server, but with P2 Cast on AWS, in addition to the above, everything from editing to distribution can be implemented collectively from the cloud. Due to this, users can be released from the constraints of location and equipment, and conduct offsite news operation where the previewing, editing, distributing and steaming of the news footage and monitoring of the camera condition can be done from anywhere using a PC terminal connected to a network, instead of from high-spec editing system at broadcast station. This maximizes the human resources of news production staff and contributes to improved promptness and cost reductions. Further expansion of the connection to Panasonic’s PTZ cameras, image processing, and archives using the cloud are being planned. In the future, the possibilities of linking with OTT, big data and AI on the cloud will continue to expand.
The P2 4K shoulder-type camera recorder compatible with 4K acquisition is currently being developed as a new product for the P2 Series. The shoulder-type camera recorder for broadcast use makes it possible to record news footage in 4K image quality, and is scheduled to be released within 2019. The firmware and version upgrade (free of charge) that is compatible with P2 file format (MXF/AVC-Intra/AVC-LongG) recording is scheduled within 2019 for the handheld AG-CX350 4K camera recorder, which has been on sale since February.
The Panasonic P2 Series has been the driving force in the industry behind achieving semiconductor memory card recording for broadcasting since 2014, and has led the file base and IT development for the world’s broadcasting systems. By increasing efficiency through IT operation linked with our partner companies, and providing connection while improving image quality in compliance with 4K broadcasting, Panasonic aims to continue contributing greatly to the broadcasting industry.
These development systems and equipment will be exhibited at the NAB Show that will be held in Las Vegas, USA, from April 8 to April 11, 2019.
